"In 2019, a new World League was initiated in international hockey, in which we, the German women's and men's hockey teams, participate. This had a significant impact, especially on our travel expenses. The kilometers covered by plane and car increased so much that our awareness of our CO2 emissions also grew. Since the league is an essential preparation for the Olympic Games, we thought about how we could still reduce the impact on our planet. This led us to the idea of planting a hockey forest to aim for carbon offset for our travels. With a global fundraising campaign, we provided other nations and hockey fans with a platform to participate in our project. The money was mainly used to finance the trees and their care. We hope that the hockey forest will exist for many years and encourage future generations to take responsibility for our planet. As part of Sports For Future, we want to continue down this path."
