New Supporter - Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games

Next year, the FISU World University Games will be held in Germany for the first time since 1989, taking place in Duisburg. The Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) has awarded the World Games of students, the world's largest multi-sport event after the Olympic and Paralympic Games, to North Rhine-Westphalia. From July 16 to 27, 2025, international athletes will compete for 12 days in 18 different sports in Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, and Mülheim an der Ruhr.

Today, the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games published a Pre-Games Paper, setting a new benchmark for sustainability and legacy in international sporting events. This aims to demonstrate a new path towards a more sustainable future in and through sports. The Pre-Games Paper provides detailed information on the specific plans and objectives for this initiative. No other FISU World University Games have ever had such a comprehensive concept, making it a new standard for international university sports.

The focus of organizing the sporting event is on reducing environmental impacts, strengthening the regional economy, and maximizing social projects. Thus, the Rhine-Ruhr Games 2025 aim to be not only outstanding in sports but also to have a sustainable and positive influence on the environment, society, and the local economy. All this, and much more, including the current status of the planning, is transparently presented in the Pre-Games Paper.

In line with the publication of this document, the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games have also signed our Sports for Future statement. We are very pleased that sustainability is given significant importance in such a large sporting event and that our initiative also helps to leave positive impacts on the environment and society.
